Friends of Hopkinson is Hopkinson Elementary’s parent booster club and fundraising organization. It was created in 1996 in response to reductions in public-school funding. Its mission is to raise funds that help provide the people, programs, technology, and resources that make the Hopkinson educational experience exceptional.
Both organizations play important roles in supporting Hopkinson Elementary, but they serve the school in different ways. The Hopkinson PTA is affiliated with the California State PTA and National PTA. It focuses on family engagement, student enrichment, advocacy, educational programs, and building a strong school community. Because it must follow state and national PTA bylaws, the PTA is restricted from funding certain expenses, including school personnel.Friends of Hopkinson (FOH) is an independent, local nonprofit organization run by volunteers. FOH can fund essential staff positions, technology, classroom resources, campus improvements, and other foundational and enrichment programs that the PTA may not be permitted to fund. Together, the PTA and FOH provide complementary support that helps Hopkinson students thrive.
Friends of Hopkinson plays a crucial role in enhancing the student experience by funding the Physical Education program, specifically by covering the full salary of the P.E. teacher for the entire school year. Additionally, FOH provides ongoing financial support for necessary equipment to ensure students have access to quality resources. Beyond athletics, Friends of Hopkinson also contributes to school improvements aimed at enriching the campus environment, including the maintenance and development of the school garden and the installation of structures over the lunch tables to provide shade for children during outdoor meals. These efforts reflect FOH’s commitment to fostering both academic and recreational excellence at the school.
